Sang Kancil // November Printmaking Pals

A photo showing both colour variants of the Sang Kancil print. There is a black one on the left and a red one on the right. The print features two animals mirroring one another. At the top of the print is Sang Kancil, a small Mouse-Deer. They are printed in black against white with tree branches and leaves above them. Mirror reflected below Sang Kancil is Br'er Rabbit. Br'er Rabbit is printed white against black and features barbed branches of a briar bush instead of tree branches and leaves.

For November's Printmaking Pals' print, I found my way in Indonesia and Malaysia with the folk hero in the shape of a clever Mouse—Sang Kancil. Sang Kancil reminded me so much of Br'er Rabbit which ended up being the heart and inspiration for this print:
