Spirit Sketches are a part of my spiritual practice where I free draw pages inspired by words, phrases, lyrics, animals, and symbols that are meaningful to me.

This Spirit Sketch was inspired by the story of a newly discovered secret stop on the Underground Railroad in Manhattan.

As news anchor Cheryl Wills squeezed herself into the dresser, she said:
"They would do anything to be free."
Lately, I've been reflecting on the relationship between my ancestors and nature.
I've been thinking about how Harriet Tubman used Barred Owl calls and her Naturalist knowledge to lead people along the Underground Railroad. How my ancestors read the night sky for their very survival and freedom. How the stars helped guide them to safety. And how they used their relationship with nature to get to freedom.
Nature helped free us.
