February Pottery – Year of the Dragon pt. 1
Stylised digital drawing of a red dragon against a black background done similar to my sgraffito pieces. You can see the hint of a California Poppy motif and "Year of the Dragon" is written into the side of the dragon. And it's surrounded by green branches and oranges.

Happy Lunar New Year!

Technically, it's tomorrow but I'm taking the weekend off so I'm doing Part 1 of my pottery update a day early. 🙂

2024 is the Year of the Dragon and to celebrate I made quite a few dragon memory jars!

What's a memory jar?

A memory jar is a great way to remember the big and small positive memories that occur throughout the year.
You write down whatever memory—big or small, store it in the jar, and at the end of the year you open it and read through all of the memories you’ve saved!

I try to make these once a year for myself and my QCCC patrons, and now that I wield the power of clay I can now easily make these for everyone!

Here's a look at some of the different memory jars.
I made 15 total (not including the 10 I made for QCCC members) which was quite a few for me!
It's always nerve-wracking making so many of something because it's like, "What if they don't all sell?"
But I'm hoping enough people are interested, because I'm always getting requests for memory jars whenever I share my personal ones or the ones I make for QCCC folk!

Here's another look at the twin dragon bowl and planter.

I also made a paint brush holder!

After all of those pieces, I also decided to try experimenting from my usual approach to painting pottery because I wanted to see how black on white design would look vs my usual white on black. And I love it!
These experimental pieces came around because I was so burnt out on carving my dragon motif, and I had three more vessels to design and I was just DONE LOL

But this vase was definitely my favourite piece out of this update!

Here's another experimental piece I tried out, but this time I did green and turquoise on white. I also painted the interior a matching green and I really love it!

I'm happy I tried doing something new and different because I really like the aesthetic!
