Sometimes, you need to make something just for yourself. And I was in need of a new scrunchie\/hair-tire holder and what better animal to hold and watch over scrunchies than a Long Neck dinosaur!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For this sculpt, I worked with a recycled clay that I got from the pottery store ages ago. I don’t use it to throw anymore because it’s incredibly rough and grainy to use, and it ends up shredding my hands on the wheel. But I don’t want the clay to go to waste so every now and then I’ll use it for my own sculptures or test pieces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here they are sculpted with the spray bottle and small, plastic dinosaur friend (a previous DIY planter project of mine) helping to support the tail and neck as the sculpture dried.<\/p>\n\n\n

And here they are freshly carved and pre-fired! As with all of my other pieces, I added a lot of California Poppy flower “tattoo” and floral motifs.<\/p>\n\n\n

And here they are post-fired both with scrunchies and without.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I ended up doing a clear gloss underglaze as well because without it, the sculpture would end up with a more rough texture that would make sliding scrunchies on and off the neck more difficult.<\/p>\n\n\n

Incredibly happy with how this friend turned out!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
