Leo // May Printmaking Pals

May's print featured my favourite sign—Leo!

It was so hard to resist just leaving Leo as they were, but African Lions don't live in North America.
I decided to put a twist on such an iconic sign and turned to the Monarch Butterfly as inspiration—a huge contrast to such a large, powerful, and fierce animal.
Monarch Butterflies are just as recognisable as a lion with their fire-y orange and black patterned wings along with the critical role they play in the health of our environment. And even being such a small, fragile creature they still make the long and dangerous journey required for their migration.
Monarch Butterflies demonstrate that even the smallest possess the power to be bold, brave, and beautiful.

Photo of two relief prints featuring a monarch butterfly with Leo astrological symbols and associations within the design. One is done with black ink and the other is done in red to symbolise Leo's connection to the element of fire.
