Gemini // March Printmaking Pals

The next zodiac in the cycle is Gemini!

One thing I wanted to do with my interpretation of the zodiac signs is to deviate away from stereotypical depictions or traits of the signs.

I've found that Gemini is one of those signs that gets a bad rap—they’re always seen as conniving or two-faced. But digging a little bit deeper, Gemini is a sign of curiosity, wit, and duality (which isn’t necessarily a bad thing!).

Traditionally, Gemini is depicted as two people who mirror each other. It’s the first time in the zodiac that a human being appears (if you’re not assuming that a person is holding the Jug of Aquarius), but it’s also special that Gemini is never depicted alone.

Because this is a series inspired by North American wildlife, I chose to create a mythological version of an animal—a two headed fox—for the sign of Gemini.

And for the limited colour variant, I chose a custom lilac to reflect the element of Air.

Photo showing two block prints of my two-headed fox Gemini design. The top print was done with black ink and the print on the bottom was done with the custom lilac ink.
