Stardust Hymns – Poetic Tiger Gallery

My piece for Poetic Tiger Gallery's Stardust Hymns exhibition is now available!

This is my Star Crossed Lovers Totem, yet another experimental piece where I'm exploring including humans into my work.

Stardust Hymns is themed around the Cosmos and outer space. It felt like such a synchronicity for me to receive this invite because I had been really diving into star stuff over this past winter season.
I'm also a sucker for love stories, so I wanted to make a piece inspired by the Chinese folktale: The Cowherd and the Weaver Girl.

The original folktale is about star crossed lovers that were forbidden from being together.
And so by using two different clay types, you can see that I intentionally depicted an interracial couple because not so long ago, in the United States, interracial couples—and marriage—was forbidden and against the law.
So as a child of an interracial couple this piece is extra special to me.

The couple in the folktale represent the stars Altair and Vega.
And if you look closely at the couple, you can see that I've depicted the "Summer Triangle" that is formed by Altair, Vega, and a star named Deneb onto the front of their bodies.
