The Real Horsewives of Lexington
The Real Horsewives of Lexington logotype done mimicking The Real Housewives franchise logotypes

We open with the show’s logo appearing on screen as the ladies of Lexington are on their way to Churchill Downs where Neigh-Neigh’s son is racing in this year’s Kentucky Derby.
The night before, accusations were hurled and truths were revealed during Terlingua’s gala honoring the legacy of her father, Secretariat, and some things were said that can’t be taken back.

Despite their cool, calm composure, tensions are still running high in the group.
But perhaps a little booze and betting will help the ladies heal their friendship.

This is my entry for this year’s Breyerfest Diorama contest where the theme was Pop Culture that Pops!
These are The Real Horsewives of Lexington who are inspired by The Real Housewives franchise—specifically the peak of The Real Housewives of Atlanta which is the franchise that has had the biggest impact on pop culture out of all the RH franchises.

I would go so far as to say that solely Nene Leakes from RHOA is the housewife who has had the greatest impact on pop culture. She is the reason that The Housewives franchise even took off and became popular reality tv in the first place; and she has reaction meme upon meme of her that all of us—including non-Housewives fans—use in our every day online communication:

nene painting meme
nene bye meme

nene running meme
nene "whatever that means" meme

nene "Okay, girl. Bye." meme
Nene "I said what I said" meme

nene surprised/taken aback by Kim's horrible singing meme
Nene "close your legs to married men" meme

I really wanted to participate and try winning this year’s prize model, but I didn’t feel confident in my original ideas. They were great but I actually dreaded putting it together because I wanted to win so bad and do a good job. I almost gave up on the contest but a friend encouraged me to try, and I ended up coming up with this Real Horsewives idea and I had such a good time putting together this cute, clever diorama that I no longer cared about winning—I was having so much fun creating something just for shits and giggles.

I love how everything turned out in the end. I've never made little clothes for horses before;
I've never worked with fake diorama substrate; and I really didn't want to spend a whole bunch on materials for their clothing, so I only ended up buying a teeny amount of fabric and lace from Joanns, and the rest of materials I found just hanging out in the studio.

The Real Horsewives logotype is probably my favourite piece I made for this diorama. I hunted down a copycat version of the typeface the actual franchise uses, I used the Proud Arabian Mare mold silhouette as the symbol for the franchise, and I chose to colour match the Breyer Blue used in their logo for the secondary type colour.

One of the changes I would make is actually construct them Derby Day hats! That would fit so well with the idea that they're on their way to the Kentucky Derby. But I just didn't have time or the mental bandwidth to engineer fancy hats out of paper.

I still would like to win but I’ll be ok if I don’t. I’m just proud of myself for finally finishing one of these model horse projects before the deadline. I never finished my NaMoPaiMo projects on time (or at all), and I quickly gave up on putting together a diorama for last year’s contest. But this year I actually completed something and that means a lot to me. 🙂✨
